Health Insurance Marketplace Notification

Main Content

All SIU Carbondale employees will receive a mandatory notice at your home address that explains your option to purchase health insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace. The federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (“PPACA”) requires the University, as your employer, to send you this notice. However, you do not need to purchase insurance through the Marketplace as long as you and your eligible dependent family members maintain health insurance coverage.

If you have health insurance under through one of the University plans provided by the State of Illinois State Employees Group Insurance Program your insurance plan satisfies your individual responsibility to carry health insurance coverage under the PPACA.

All SIU Carbondale employees will receive a mandatory notice at your home address that explains your option to purchase health insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace. All employees are encouraged to review the notice. If you or your dependent family members do not currently have health insurance, please carefully read the appropriate notice that was mail to your home address.  A link to the notice can also be found directly below.

PPACA requires nearly all individuals to obtain health insurance coverage for themselves and any dependent family members.
